It was horribly hot outside! So we went in to have some cold Asian treats, specifically 刨冰 (bàobīng). That's Taiwanese style shaved ice for all you provincial types. The one I ordered has three toppings: grass jelly, tapioca, and aiyu jelly. The grass jelly is the darker one while the aiyu jelly is yellow. The little black balls are the tapioca.
I was freezing by the third bite! It was so cold! I am wearing an H&M dress and I was wishing I'd brought my sweater!
The aiyu jelly close up. It looked really glassy and pretty in real life. I'm not sure I really like it by itself but with the grass jelly and shaved ice, it was perfect.
Mixed up. Everything tasted better in a big mush. What a perfect summer snack.
Here are some school stuff that keep me happy.

LUNCH! Hurray! The sandwich is pesto with mozzarella and lettuce. I also have a cup of blackberries and blueberries and fried rice. And of course, orange soda.

My *ahem* rooster with balls key chain, a very old present from Tzu-Chi and my new Hello Kitty twist crayons. God bless thee, Tarjay.

Colors! Here are some colorful things from my new school stash. The folders are the cheapy kind sold at my campus bookstore. The notebooks are from Tarjay (yay). The pink book is... my Chinese textbook. The highlighters are Pucca from Flushing and the cool Monster magnetic page clips are from Barnes & Noble. And as previously shown, Hello Kitty crayons.

Newly bought from Flushing Mall... MUSHROOM!!! MUSHROOM!!! He's a toilet paper holder that doesn't really work... Cute though...

I know. Boring folders. I like that the insides have pretty colors though... This folder is for my Ancient Historians senior siminar. The post-it is for the location of the Bible... It's under "BS185" on the fourth floor at the library. I didn't make it up...

New Plates and Tea Cups from Home Goods
I love these cups! I found them hidden away in a corner at Home Goods. The aisle was pretty crowded. There was an Asian woman buying a whole stack of plates and matching bowls and she was actually setting EACH ONE on the ground to make sure she had the correct number of each. Meanwhile, three other women were trying to elbow in to get their share of the goodies. Each woman had a cart and were using them like tanks. Meanwhile, lil ole me snuck past all four of them after leaving my cart in a discreet corner. I found these nestled safely between several horrendously printed plates and broken tea pots. They're so sweet and lovely! The colors aren't really clear in these blurry shots but the green edging is quite a sight to behold next to the delicate flowers and golden edges.
They look like they belong in a Victorian country house but also look like the perfect little dish for some Laduree macaroons. When I took them home, my sister demmanded for her own cup and saucer and I was very glad I had decided to buy both sets in the store... -.-;;;;
These are plates that I found in the aisle next door. Again, colors! The turquoise doesn't match the green bu the palette and the design is similiar. I think it borders on tackiness but I don't care. It looks like it belongs in a period or Georgian movie. I think food tastes better on prettier dishware! I bought two. One for Sister and one for me.
Here are the two together so you can see the match/not-matchiness. Cute, eh?
